Looking at this with “now-eyes”, it is a bit funny how much more fantasy was required back in the day. In a way playing a video game was much more theater-of-the-mind than nowadays with (near) photorealistic everything. On the one hand a designer can now very much instill her/his vision on a gaming product, on the other hand, there is not much fantasy involved anymore. Unless maybe to head-canon all the BS that is put in.
